UniDoodle Foamboard @ BETT
Project Type
Print Material
Date
March 2023
The UniDoodle team got a last minute slot at BETT 2023, an EdTech conference in London, making travel arrangements just one week before the event.
We didn't have time to enlist the help of a graphic designer, so I pulled together our existing assets and adapted them for print.
Our stand for showcase had an 800x800 display area that we needed to restrict our wall-hanging promo material to. We originally intended to have multiple circular foamboards printed and arranged like bubbles across the space, but due to time constraints for printing, and additional cost for non-rectangular shapes, I reformatted the design on an 800x800 board to fit the space exactly, and keep costs to a minimum.
Having learned my lesson during business card design about colour translation and printer-friendly colours, I designed our posterboard in InDesign.
We had enlisted the services of a video production company in 2021/2022 to create a promotional video for UniDoodle, so with our tight time constraints and even tighter budget, I exported video frames to images and used a paid service online to increase the resolution of the images to print quality.
We wanted to show the global appeal of UniDoodle and use the space as a chance to focus on the users, rather than the product itself. We added testimonials from real pilot trial users, and kept other text to a minimum, knowing that this static print would be a backdrop with a complementary looping video that would demonstrate app functionality.
The poster was successful in that it was definitely eye-catching and complemented the space and colours of BETT itself. However, people passing by without any prior knowledge of UniDoodle weren't able to distinguish what exactly it did, and we did get some feedback to say that the product itself could be better explained with the poster.
With a longer timeline and more consideration, I think this would have been done differently, although we were pleased with it at the time, given our circumstances.
